Study on antioxidant activity of Eugenia cargophyllata Thunb.

Abstract

Abstract: The antioxidant activity of total flavonoids from Caryophylli flos was studied with 2,6-tert butyl-4-methyl phenol （BHT）, quercetin, and essential oil from Caryophylli flos as reference, and the total reducing capacity and scavenging DPPH· free radical ability as evaluating indicator. The total flavonoids of Eugenia Cargophyllata Thunb. had better antioxidant activity,and its reducing power was slightly lower than that of positive control BHT and higher than that of essential oil from Caryophylli flos. The DPPH· free radical scavenging capacity increased obviously with the increase of concentration. When the concentration reached 0.15 and 0.2 mg/mL,DPPH· radical scavenging rate exceeded essential oil from Caryophylli flos and positive control BHT respectively.
