Abstract: Taking Anhui Province as the research object, the spatial and temporal changes of ecological footprint in Anhui Province between 2005 and 2020 was studied by using the ecological footprint analysis method and the decoupling theory. The results showed that, from the time dimension, the ecological footprint and ecological deficit in Anhui Province from 2005 to 2020 showed a changing trend of increasing first and then decreasing, and reached its peak in 2014. However, the ecological capacity didn’t show a significant chang, and always maintained a steady increase; from the spatial dimension, the ecological deficit and ecological footprint in northern Anhui Province from 2005 to 2020 were far greater than those in the southern region, and Fuyang, Bozhou, Suzhou and other places in northern Anhui had always maintained a high ecological footprint and ecological deficit; from the state of decoupling of economic development and resources and environment, Anhui Province mainly had strong decoupling and weak decoupling from 2005 to 2020, and after 2015, there was an alternation phenomenon of strong and weak decoupling. On the basis of this analysis, the sustainable development of Anhui Province was realized by taking measures of improving the regional ecological capacity, optimizing the energy structure and reducing the personal ecological footprint.
