Breeding and application of a new millet variety Zhenggu No. 3 with double herbicide resistance

Abstract: In order to meet the needs of millet production and solve the problem of weeds in the millet field, Zhengzhou Institute of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences used the method of killing males in warm soup, with the excellent herbicide resistant strain AN 10-4172 as the female parent and the intermediate material resistant to imidazole ethylnicotinic acid (Fu 532 × M24) as a male parent, which was sexually crossed and continuously selected in Zhengzhou and Hainan. The new double herbicide resistant summer millet variety Zhenggu No. 3 was bred in 2015. This variety participated in the regional test of millet varieties in Henan Province from 2016 to 2017, with an average yield of 5 780.0 kg/hm2, an average increase of 5.72% compared with the control variety Yugu No. 9, and a pilot yield increase rate of 93.75%. Zhenggu No. 3 has the characteristics of resistance to imidazole ethylnicotinic acid, resistance to sethoxydim, excellent quality, high and stable yield, high yield potential, good agronomic characters and strong comprehensive resistance. It is suitable to be planted in the summer millet area of Henan and other places.
