Abstract: Bacteria perceive environmental changes through the signal transduction network system, and control bacterial behavior, metabolism and development by regulating their own gene expression. Most bacteria and archaea use two-component transduction system and chemical sensing system to perceive environmental changes. In recent years, based on genome research, it has been found that there are many different extracellular domains in bacterial two-component transduction system and chemical sensing system. These extracellular domains can sense extracellular signals and play an important role in various physiological functions of bacteria. The structural characteristics and functions of Cache domain, CHASE domain, NIT domain and 4HB domain were introduced to provide a reference for the classification of extracellular sensory domains and the identification of signal sites.

Key words: signal transduction, two-component system, chemical sensing system, extracellular sensory domain
