Relationship of stem characteristics with lodging resistance of highland barley

Abstract: In order to select excellent lodging resistant parents of highland barley, the lodging resistance of 367 highland barley core collections were evaluated by taking the folding resistance of the second internode at the base of highland barley stem as the lodging resistance index. The results showed that the varieties with different levels of folding resistance of farm varieties and bred varieties accounted for the same proportion, and the varieties with medium bending resistance were the most. The variety with the strongest lodging resistance was black highland barley (62.27 N), the weakest was white highland barley (5.13 N),and the two varieties were both farm varieties,the Kunlun 14 (58.77 N) was bred variety with the strongest lodging resistance(it is come from outside of Tibet). According to the study on the internal structure and field performance of the stem,it was found that the mechanical tissue of the variety with strong bending resistance was thick and the stem was erect in the field. The farm varieties and highland barley varieties outside the region can provide excellent parents for lodging resistance breeding of Tibet highland barley varieties.
