Abstract: With the aid of remote sensing survey data, the present situation and change of land use structure in Chongqing city was analyzed. The results showed that the land use types in Chongqing were mainly woodland and farmland in 2010. Farmland was mainly dry land, accounted for about 61.50%, paddy field was about 38.50%. The farmland and paddy field in Chongqing were mostly distributed in the west and middle, and less in the east. From 1997 to 2010, the farmland area in Chongqing was obviously reduced, the amplitude contraction achieves 29.92%, in which dry land reduced 33.05%, paddy field reduced 24.25%. At the same time, the woodland area increased significantly, from 29 580.1 km2 to 44 834.5 km2, increase of 51.57%. Farmland was the main source of woodland growth, which accounted for 86.45% of the total area of transferring to woodland.
