Abstract: In order to develop and satisfy the demand for native grass species for the healthy development of lawn industry in Hubei,from 2006 to 2017, the domestication, breeding and evaluation of wild orchardgrass（Dactylis glomerata L.） collected in Yichang area were carried out. A new strain of orchardgrass “Yichang” was bred by domestication and blending for three mixed selections, and the main agronomic traits and biomass of the original wild population were obviously improved. The new strain of orchardgrass from Yichang will have great potential for development and utilization in grassland establishment and grassland improvement in Hubei and even in south of China.
