Study on the contents of total polysaccharides,total flavonoids,total saponins and the antioxidant activity in the extracts of leaves of Millettia speciosa Champ.

Abstract

Abstract: The extract of leaves from Millettia speciosa Champ. was prepared by hot water reflux extraction, and the contents of total polysaccharide, total flavonoids and total saponins in the extract were determined by colorimetric method combined with UV spectrophotometry. At the same time, the scavenging ability of DPPH·, ABTS⁺·, ·OH and O2-· free radical was determined to evaluate the antioxidant activity in vitro. The results showed that, the contents of total polysaccharide, total flavonoids and total saponins of leaves from Millettia speciosa Champ. were （1.36±0.05）%, （0.61±0.007）%, （0.15±0.013）%, respectively. The half inhibitory concentrations of DPPH·, ABTS+·, ·OH and O2-· free radical were 16.11, 4.78, 10.26 and 7.51 mg/mL. The contents of different types of components of leaves from Millettia speciosa Champ. were different, and the content of total polysaccharide was the highest. At the same time, it had good antioxidant activity in vitro, and had the strongest antioxidant effect on ABTS⁺· free radical.
