Study on the influence of livelihood capital on farmers’ enthusiasm to grow grain in Jianghan plain

Abstract: In view of the social phenomenon of farmers’ livelihood capital increasing fragmentation in Jianghan plain, this paper explored the regularity of the impact of livelihood capital on farmers’ willingness to grow grain in Jianghan plain, and and determined 11 indicators from five aspects of human capital, physical capital, financial capital, natural capital and social capital to study the influence on the enthusiasm of the farmers to plant of Jianghan plain. Binary and multiple Logistic model analysis method were adopted to investigate farmers in Jianghan plain by stratified random sampling method. Five cities (Jingzhou, Qianjiang, Xiantao, Jingmen and Xiangyang) were selected to analyze the impact of livelihood capital on farmers’ grain planting enthusiasm in Jianghan plain. The results showed that there was a strong correlation between livelihood capital and farmers’ willingness to grow grain in Jianghan plain, among which the grain acreage cultivated, whether the family had agricultural machinery and tools, and whether they joined production cooperatives showed significant positive influence. Electronic products, part-time income on grain enthusiasm showed a significant negative impact. Therefore, we should promote the orderly transfer of land,promote “mechanization” projects,encourage farmers to join production cooperatives, and effectively improve the utilization rate of resources.
